Benha University President: Partnership with Chinese Universities Is a Successful Model of Strategic Cooperation Between Egypt and China

Dr. Nasser El-Gizawy, President of Benha University, affirmed that the Chinese President’s visit to Egypt represents an important milestone in the course of the strategic relations between the two countries and reflects the depth of the Egyptian-Chinese partnership in various fields, foremost among them higher education and scientific research. He pointed out that Benha University is one of Egypt’s leading universities in building distinguished academic and research partnerships with a number of globally ranked Chinese universities. The university is also a founding member of the Executive Office of the University Alliance of the Silk Road, which is chaired by Xi’an Jiaotong University.

Dr. Nasser El-Gizawy stated that over the past years, Benha University has succeeded in establishing an extensive network of scientific cooperation with Chinese universities, opening new horizons for students, researchers, and faculty members to benefit from advanced Chinese expertise in the fields of technology, innovation, artificial intelligence, engineering, and applied sciences.

The University President explained that Wuhan University in China is one of Benha University’s most prominent strategic partners. Cooperation between the two sides has extended since 2016 and has witnessed the signing and renewal of memoranda of understanding and agreements for student exchange and the provision of scholarships for students and graduates, in addition to cooperation in various research and academic fields. This cooperation has resulted in the establishment of a joint college, the Benha-Wuhan School of Graduate Studies, at the university campus in Obour City, which awards dual degrees in the fields of remote sensing, geographic information systems, and international business administration, as well as a number of multidisciplinary nursing programs.

He added that the university also has strong cooperation relations with Wuhan University of Technology, which, over more than ten years, have resulted in the implementation of joint programs in scientific research, education, and academic exchange, particularly in the fields of engineering and information technology, in addition to participation in international scientific conferences and seminars.

Dr. El-Gizawy pointed out that Benha University recently signed a cooperation agreement with China’s Foshan University, covering scientific and cultural exchange, enhancing research cooperation among faculty members, and implementing joint research projects and laboratories, thereby supporting the university’s commitment to international openness and strengthening its presence on the global academic stage.

Benha University also maintains strong relations with Huazhong Agricultural University, which has provided dozens of scholarships for members of the Benha University community, in addition to joint research projects.

The President of Benha University affirmed that cooperation with Chinese universities is not limited to the exchange of students and researchers, but extends to building long-term research partnerships, developing academic programs, transferring technology, and supporting innovation and entrepreneurship, in line with the Egyptian state’s vision of achieving sustainable development and building a knowledge-based economy.

Dr. Nasser El-Gizawy concluded his remarks by emphasizing that Egyptian-Chinese relations are witnessing an unprecedented phase of growth and prosperity, and that Benha University is keen to continue expanding the horizons of cooperation with prestigious Chinese educational institutions. This contributes to preparing graduates capable of competing globally, enhancing the university’s regional and international standing, and embodying the vital role of higher education as a bridge for communication and mutual understanding between the Egyptian and Chinese peoples.
