Objectives

 * Equipping students with specialized knowledge and a deep understanding of history and archaeology.

 * Providing students with academic and practical research and teaching skills that enable professional practice in their field.

 * Enhancing concepts of history and archaeology through professional application.

 * Developing the graduate’s leadership and professional personality.

 * Equipping students with the general communication skills necessary to engage with the local community.

 * Training graduates in scientific research within the field of history, including its various methodologies and approaches.

 * Producing highly qualified male and female graduates in history to meet societal needs, provide job opportunities, and prepare them for postgraduate studies.

To achieve these objectives, the department’s curriculum is divided into four specialized branches:

 1. Division of Ancient History: Focuses on the study of Ancient Egyptian history and the history of the peoples and civilizations that interacted with it in the ancient Near East and the Mediterranean basin (Greece and Rome).

 2. Division of Islamic History: Specializes in the study of the history and civilization of the Islamic world.

 3. Division of Medieval History: Dedicated to the study of European history and civilization during the Middle Ages.

 4. Division of Modern and Contemporary History: Focuses on the history of modern Egypt, the Arab world, and global history in modern and contemporary times (including Africa, Asia, and the Americas). It also covers essential auxiliary sciences such as economic history and political systems/theories.

In addition to historical studies, students study a modern European language in their first year, followed by the study of historical texts in a modern European language starting from the second year.

Thus, the courses studied by a history student are integrated to form a scientific framework. This framework is designed to cultivate a "historical mindset" capable of navigating safely through the turbulent events of history, eventually reaching the shore of historical truth—which is the ultimate goal.
